The Garden Slug

Searching for a cosy place for you and your furry friend to rest and relax? Look no further than The Garden Slug at Telok Kurau, a pet-friendly café nestled in a quiet residential area with an old-school vibe and generous servings.

Give their Signature Cowboy Burger a try if you’re in the mood for something heartier, washed down with some Frothy Nutella. If you’re craving for some fusion food, maybe pair their Tom Yum Pasta Vongole with a Frothy Thai Tea Latte.

And don’t forget to snap a couple photos for your social media feed with their red accent wall!

Refuel

Situated just beside Bedok Reservoir, Refuel is the perfect place to wind down after a brisk morning walk, or to fuel up before a slow evening stroll as the sun sets.

You will definitely take some time pouring over the menu, as Refuel offers a wide wallet-friendly selection of pastas, mains, and all-day brunch options. Take your pick: Chilli Crab Pasta. Honey BBQ Ribs. Miss-o Salmon. Pulled Pork Burger. Heck, their signature Fuel Me Up brunch platter! Don’t forget to order some desserts to really seal the deal - a Pancake Indulgence, or maybe some Homemade Apple Crumble.

Tasty food at an affordable price with a scenic location close by to walk off the calories. Sounds perfect to me!

Thus Coffee

With many cafes competing to have the most aesthetically-pleasing, Instagram-worthy appearances, Sembawang Hills estate’s unassuming Thus Coffee can be a breath of fresh air.

That’s not to say there's been any lack of thought put in the decorating the café of course. Just like the espousal of their unique welcome mat – 脚踏实地, a Chinese idiom meaning to stay grounded and down-to-earth – Thus Coffee’s cosy environment invites you to slow down, relax and connect, perhaps over a cup of coffee that was brewed with freshly in-house roasted coffee beans.

Feel right at home with a serving of their Hearty Chicken Stew, or munch on some Grilled Cheese sandwiches as you sip on your Green Shot latte. For the ones feeling indulgent, you can order up some Wagyu Beef & Potatoes. And do look out for their seasonal menus, as they serve limited portions!

Amber Ember

With dusty pink walls, marble tables, wooden benches and plants bathed in warm light, the picturesque Amber Ember along Upper Serangoon is the perfect escape from the fluorescent and monochromatic work life.

The all-day breakfast menu offers playfully named Jaffles (toasted sandwiches pressed in cast iron) like Cheesus Loves You and Truffle Fun-Guy, and a selection of sourdough like their Sambal Scramble. If you’re not feeling like having bread there are pasta options available as well, like their 18 hour-braised Beef Cheek Ragu.

One thing’s for sure - with Amber Ember’s charming interior and carefully plated dishes - you will have some great additions to the Gram!

Coexist Coffee

Here’s a café that you will likely never chance upon if you hadn’t already known about it.

Coexist Coffee is hidden on the 8th floor of Hillview Building, an industrial building you may easily mistake for housing nothing more than warehouses and offices. But take the elevator to the 7th floor, ascend two flights of stairs to the 8th, and be welcomed into a spacious two-tone café with both indoor and sheltered outdoor seating.

Sit back and enjoy the blue skies and natural light as you sip on some coffee, or a cup of kombucha. For food Coexist offers up a good variety of usual café fare – all day breakfasts and mains inspired by local flavours, such as the Chilli Crab Shaksuka and the Rendang Wagyu Beef Burger.

Coexist Coffee may be slightly out of the way for most, but an Instagrammable rooftop café is definitely a trip you will want to make.

Chez Suzette

Locals who have been yearning to travel again to Europe can satisfy their itch at Chez Suzette, a French-inspired double storey café situated along Teck Lim Road, which is incidentally also the newest café on this list.

The café is bright and airy thanks to the tall glass windows allowing lots of natural daylight in. A minimalist design is embraced with cream-coloured walls and brown rattan furniture, with plants adding a sprinkle of life to the aesthetic.

Chez Suzette’s menu is extensive, with brunch options like the Le Petit Dejeuner, starters like Escargots a la Bourguignonne and Traditional French Onion Soup, mains like Duck Leg Confit, and desserts like the Crepes Suzette, you will definitely feel like you, or at least your stomach, has been transported to south-eastern France.

Did we mention that the wines list is even more extensive? Guess it’s true what they say about the French and their wine!
