FREE Film Camera Applications you need to have!

Want to get that vintage film camera look without spending a single cent? Why not make use of something you already own - your phone? Here’s a list of film camera apps to get that Insta-worthy photo. A great way to try out different effects before getting an actual film camera!

Dazz Cam - Vintage Camera

Photos from Apple App Store

Inspired by the retro film camera of the 80s, Dazz Cam is the most realistic film photography and video app. As of Nov’22, they offer 2 free filters for videography and 12 free filters for photography, with a collage function. They also have free fisheye, prism and star functions to further spice up the photos. You can choose between 3:2 and the original ratio, customise the timestamp, or change the intensity of the light leaks. With 4.7 stars (48.3k ratings) on the Apple Store, Dazz Cam is definitely a popular choice among many.

Available on iOS.

NOMO CAM - Point and Shoot

Photos from Apple App Store

NOMO CAM was designed to help casual photographers focus on taking pictures, instead of all the post-production retouches. NOMO CAM offers 8 free camera filters, even a McDonald’s camera! One thing we like about the app is the unique user interface, it really feels like we are using a real film camera with all the tiny details and the interface changes with every camera you select. Instead of just having a “PRO” membership, they also offer the option of paying for some of the individual cameras if you don’t want to subscribe. NOMO CAM has 4.7 stars (46.3k ratings) on the Apple Store.

Available on iOS and Android.

1998 Cam - Vintage Camera

Photos from Apple App Store

1998 Cam is a disposable camera with a date stamp that gives beautiful photos the precious retro feel of analogue film. Instead of letting you choose the camera, the 1998 Cam has many filters you can use for post-editing. There are so many filters to choose from to achieve the effect you want. The app essentially works like your phone camera - but better. You can also do basic editing directly from the app including changing the brightness, tone, saturation and more.

Available on iOS and Android.

Kamon - Vintage Film Camera

Photos from Apple App Store

Kamon is definitely one of the easiest to use - simple, straightforward and good. It offers 11 FREE camera filters ranging from different polaroids to disposable film cameras. I love that I can also record videos which not many film camera applications offer for free, perfect for all the budding vloggers out there who want to try something new! This will definitely be our go-to app if I want to take a quick snapshot without having to scroll through thousands of filters.

Available on iOS.

Filmroll - Vintage Camera

Photos from Apple App Store

A pocket vintage camera app for photographers. They even have camera filters for old roll films that are discontinued, like the Fuji Reala 500D and Fuji Superia 100. You can unlock some of the filters by completing tasks like following them on Instagram, using your first watermark and capturing a certain number of films. This also motivates me to take more photos using the app to unlock even more filters. They even record your film usage! We love that they teach you which film is best for a specific setting - a great feature for beginners.

Available on iOS.

FIMO - Analog Camera

Photos from Apple App Store

FIMO captures the beauty and magic of old-school vintage images. Dust and scratches, retro colours, flickering, light leaks, and even frame shake can be instantly added with a simple tap. FIMO offers many different camera filters and the whole app experience really makes you feel like you’re using a film camera. The whole visual appeal of watching a film being loaded each time you change it is so special. There’s also a really cool feature where they sort the photos you’ve taken according to the films used. The whole interface makes it very easy to navigate the app and the types of films are also well-sorted.
